Star Wars : TOR - Post demo opinions

For discussing general aspects of MMO play and design.

Other Stuff

I also heard somewhere in the various videos lately a developer use the phrase "End Game". They also used the word "raids" in the context of this endgame.

Some people have negative feelings regarding raiding - put putting that aside for a moment - this is the first time I've heard them talk about anything other than "story" and "character".

I think that's why it seems so "linear" at the moment - because of their marketting focus on the classes and the story but there will hopefully ultimately be those other things that we expect from an MMO. Social "hubs", End Game...has anyone considered how they might impliment more customization through a limited crafting system?

I suppose it's all still early days.

I'm intrigued to see the characters that we don't know about yet. I'll have a quick guess:

Jedi Tailer (can only make robes)

Politican (with "Bore Enemy" ability)

Sith Wannabe (just like the normal sith but with really bad stats and only one ability "Star Wars Kid")

Small sort of gerbil-like alien dude. Runs fast and poops in corners (these corners are indicated by green glowy outlines of the gerbil-like alien dude).

There's also going to be some sort of PvP system which will keep people going after they've finished the main plot. I don't know how I feel about raids. If the prizes or experiances are worth it and they find a way to make the raids really interesting, then I'm in.

Speaking of crafting, they have mentioned there will be crafting in passing, but not what we'll be crafting. Personally I imagine their crafting system to be more similar to LOTRO's than SWG's, just a gut feeling.

People on the forums who like to discuss classes did suggest a noble/senator role, I personally don't think it'll be feasible. There's not enough dialogue options in the day that'll make such a profession interesting.

Also, on the subject of playable races, some people voted for Gizga

I keep finding myelf second guessing what the next few classes will be. Jedi/Sith, Smuggler and Bounty Hunter were fairly obvious choices. Trooper seems curious, that you play a grunt, and probabaly rise to greatness. For the Sith, Mandalorians, Slavers and Spies are all obvious choices because they've been mentioned in videos and/or webcomic. The only other class that comes to mind for the Republic are Demolitions Experts, which were mentioned in the webcomic.

Spy

Spy - if I had to place a bet that seems the closest to a good bet.

As I understand it in the mythology, Mandalorian is more of a race of people who could fill a number of roles - Trooper who happens to be Mandalorian. Bounty hunter the same and so on.

Disguises seem to be a bigger part of Star Wars than I'd really figured before. Lots of dressing up in Star Wars. That would be a fun aspect of a Spy class!

Animation looks canny, the guy at the start with the beard and glasses looks almost real.

Quite right, Mandalorians can appear in many forms, and they aren't even constricted to one race (Human as it would appear in Jango Fetts Case)

There's alot more info on Mandalorians and anything else Star Wars at Wookiepedia for those like me who can't seem to know enough;)

Thining about Xeevo's post.

I remember us in groups doing stuff together in SWG, thing is with that game there was never really any good things to do, but Krayt hunting, going and doing higher end stuff, it was always fun.

Now thinking of how much fun I have rading on WoW, but also doing other stuff like raiding cities etc (we did a bit of that if I'm not mistaken :) ) it makes me think that if/when we get together and do some stuff it will be a right laugh, as long as it's not the same content over, and over, and over, and over again.

They do need to get end game stuff right or people will level to the end and then stop/get bored. Wow have got the mix quite good as they have PVP stuff and raiding but there's still not quite enough there.

Will be interesting to see how Bioware do it.
