Oh the irony. phpBB has had a terrible record with security and targeted exploits. I gather phpBB3 security is considerably more improved over previous versions (and I do admit, I like the interface far more than previous incarnations) but it's still targeted by hackers quite a lot.

One of the reasons I originally bougth VBulletin was for the improved security, but the decision they chose to make with regards 'owned' licenses meant that, unless you paid for in full again for the new version, they cut off support and security patches for the previous version. Hmmm... tempting, but no thanks!

PHPBB seems to be a lot better product nowadays and you know that you'll always be able to keep it updated. The same can't be said for Vbulletin any more I'm afraid. That's why we were getting so many spambots under vBulletin towards the end.
