I'm alive...

Postby Thurlin » Sat Jan 23, 2010 6:43 pm

Hello folks, miss me ? :)

Just realised I had not visited this place for ages and decided to pop by... I've really taken a loooong vacation from anything MMO like now and I doubt i'll be returning to the lure of MMO's anytime soon. RL is more forgiving to single player pausable games :)

So hows life everyone... anyone still playing LOTRO or is there a new game you're joining up in atm?

Hey Thurlin - good to hear from you!

Lotro is still the game of choice for most of the regulars here, but I'd imagine that will change once "The Old Republic" launches (next year?) - there's a lot of excitement about that one. A few people are currently playing the Star Trek Online beta too.

Sums up my feelings atm too. As long as the current generation of MMOs are based around level and loot I'll be giving them a miss. I'd probably be all over something like UO or SWG with a bit more of a social / crafting aspect.

Heya mate good to see you've not forgotten us completely yet :)
Like Novus says, I'm one of those currently lurking around the dark forest of Mirkwood, and will likely stay there untill the lure of the Star Wars brand releases ToR.
Think alot of us will go have a peek at that, hoping they last us a bit longer than Conan managed..

Good to see you mate! I'm sure you'll be back sometime in the future.

I think that what you want in an MMO is around the corner. Content gating and such is going the way of the Dodo, excluding people form content and thus driving them away from the game is going out of fashion fast! It lingers a bit in WoW, LOTRO (rad gear) and such, but that will also go away with time.

Levels are a bit harder, people like the feel of progression, hopefully they'll be able to come up with something better! Although current levelbased mmo's won't be able to change that mechanic I think.

Heck even servershards will go. The dynamic scaling (due to instancing) Guild Wars, Eve and now also Star Trek Online and others offer, is so much smarter. Could have saved WAR form dieing since PVP centric you need people to play against or there is no game. Even WOW has low population server problems. With instancing that would have been avoided. They are even trying to fix it there with dungeon cross-server instancing and PVP

We'll lose some of the hardcore stuff, but also a lot of the grind. I personally am looking forward to it. I've a hard time keeping up these days... and no its NOT my age! Why do you keep saying that? :bigcry:

Anyway, see you in another world sometime soon hopefully!
Gamers are young at heart and creative thinkers. Shall we play a game?
