Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Anyone playing it?

It's not a game that was even on my radar until about a week ago when I saw a few gameplay vids - it looks superb. Worth a purchase purely on the strength of multiplayer by the looks of things.

I'm playing it on the 360, and it's a blast. Haven't even touched the single player bit, jumped straight into multiplayer. So much fun, the only annoying part is having to unlock all the like class specific tools for every class.

Like for the medic you only start out with a submachine gun you don't even have access to health packs, so you have to unlock those, then you have to unlock the Ress (defibulators). So it takes a couple of hours before you can unlock the items you need to actually play the class you want. Well medics are the ones that has it the worst to begin with.

But the added rush multiplayer mode is really fun. You have to hold these two objectives and if the attackers manage to get to them the defending team is pushed back and have to regroup and defend two new objectives further back on the map.

Got it for the Xbox to. Done with SP and it was short. But a real blast. They have so many MW2 references "none of em good but funny" since they are competing with it sort of. Tho you can't really compare the two games. Since BF is more of a team based game and MW2 is more solo where you get massive rewards for kill streak that leaves the other less good players out to get ganked... alot. Thus I am not a big fan on MW's MP.

Graphics are nice on several levels. And the jungle maps can easily be compared to Crysis if not better imo. Tho both SP and MP maps are not as Big and wide as in BC1. They are still good and fun to play. SP follows some smaller narrower paths at some stages. Unlike the 1st one where you could go where ever you wanted at any time. As you progress to some missions and mission objectives updates. The map some times moves the area you are allowed to explore and move it. Making it smaller or bigger. Its still big enough for you to chose where to attack form. Sneak in and attack form the back door of the base if you want to. Tho on 1 mission you are continually forced to attack form the front.

SP like I said was good fun. If you have played the 1st one you may know there is a lot of humor involved.
1st one was funny and good fun to play. But the 2nd one is a bit more serious. No gold hunt this time. But a massive war with the Russians that are not going to well and a weapon of mas destruction. They need to find it and prevent the Russians form using it on the US.

They are more combat hardened. They are more serious. Believe it or not they are more tactical vs the stupidity they had in BF1. More hand signals and military tactical talk instead of the "redneck" talk in the 1st one.

Tho don't get me wrong. They have there silly humorous moments to. Tho not that often. If you stop and stand still for a bit in single player. They start to talk to each other about everything. Food, fishing, weapons, If a nuclear explosion is still Haggarts favorite explosion, Pig flu, hippies, redneck traditions, sports... Or there helicopter pilot will call em and ask for help with his cross word puzzle and...well you name it. Its really funny to stand there and take a break from the battles and hear em out. Tho no mention of truckasaurus rex so far.

And I want Miss July back. Not that grumpy old dude they got on the radio now lol.

Well worth a look just for the SP to.

MP is good fun to. Tho I miss some of the maps form BC1. The new maps are nice to. Takes a bit to get used to.
Like it was said you start out with some OK kits and weapons. But if you are a BF veteran you get some bonus unlocks straight away like the defibrillator and the medic packs for the medic. Ammo pack for the assault, repair tool for the engineer and so forth. The Special edition also gives you some unlocks straigth away. Most of em are for vehicles. And some WWII weapons. Its enough if you got BC 1 and BF 1943 on your Xbox to get most of it. And the M1 garand & the m1a1 thompson are in fact really good starter weapons. All the low ranked ppl use em. Even on the sniper the M1A1 is good for small houses when you got the motion sensor there.

A few new game modes and the same old conquest and rush "gold rush form BC1" along with squad team death mach and squad rush that are on small small maps so the action there is also good.
MP on BF is like always good fun and lots of action. Some stuff form BC1 and the other BF games i miss. Like the "no points for kills in enemy base" idea they had in 1943. It completely forced the spawn campers away cus they did not get points for it. Only we did for getting them. There are so many spawn campers on Xbox at least. But hey. Less ppl defending there base. But annoying still.

If you want my opinion. Yes! def worth getting. Fun "but some what short" SP and a MP section that will keep you going for hours on end.

You really can't compare the two games honey. The game play and game modes for the two are completely different.
For once the snipers had cloak. Tanks where crap and the big tanks where mechs with big gatling guns and missile launchers.
And the titan attack mode where good fun. But Its not the same.

You can say Bad company 2 is Battlefield 2 on steroids. Its Modern weapons. No cloak. And the rush play mode is extremely fun. I do play conquest. But the action is to spread out to be of any fun. ppl are all over the place and some where its just two ppl fighting for a flag. And next to it are 10 ppl fighting for a flag.

Rush makes every one run to the same place. Much more fun. And Sniper with motion sensors and the M1A1 camped in a house on defense. great fun ^^

2142 was good fun. And I still play it at times. But the balance act there where a bit off. since most tanks and mechs on the two different sides where not 100% alike. One tank could hover and could get more places. One mech had more armor and the next mech on the other team had gatling lasers instead of bullets so he did more damage and had more range.
And ofc the stupid shields for a short time defense on em. But that one on and storm a fort and hide behind it. Nothing anyone could do. Weapons where not the same for both sides. Some had different looks but same stats. But the best sniper on each side where different. And the good anti tank launchers. One side had Laser sniper and laser AT. And europe had bullet sniper and missile AT. Laser do more damage and missile had more range. Same with the bullet.

Always gave the "russians" an advantage on most things.

BC2 there are no shields. no cloak. no lasers... Just modern day stuff.
There are no pesky artillery guns here either this time. Just a UAV that a sniper can shoot down easy. Less annoying.
Both sides got the same weapons. Just different suits on the vehicles. But the same stats. Tho the Russian side got 1 extra light tank. And AA tank. Can rip UAV's, Helicopters and infantry apart real fast. USA side don't got that and have to use there pea shooters on em. Other then that. Its all the same. And its good fun.

Atm I am grinding the Recon kit. So most times I stay on the hill side when attacking with the sniper. Always ends up with having a personal rival. Good fun. Always some one that sneaks up on the flank when they know where you are. But only after you really start to get on there nerves and you have taken a few out. Knife him and move on. Then he brings a friend and you Plant C4 where you last camped... when they show up you blow em up. And it keeps going.

Or when you hide on the other side and play with an other sniper. you knife him... he then ignores the main battle and focuses on getting you. He runs back and look for you. Maybe gets ur dogtag. U run back and hunt for him. Great fun.

On the defensive I put the shotgun or the M1A1 on my sniper and use sensor balls to defend the buildings. also great fun.

Regardless of ur play style. If you liked BF2 or did play 1943 a bit. And loved em. Then you will like this for sure. Trust me.
Tho atm on the 360 and PS3 there have been some server issues. Servers going down. Or you get kicked out for no reason.

Not happened to me alot yet. But most ppl have only played for a few hours since launch and are a bit pissed. Then on the top of the leader board there are ppl that have passed 100hours of play time. So I guess its not that bad some places.

Not sure how its going on the PC front. But the console servers do have some issues atm.

Only played solo. Its great looking and the mechanics are cool.

Problem is its very short (tho that seems the norm nowadays with games) and the squad AI is pretty shit. You will find you kill just about every enemy that appears.

At least you can take your time and take out enemies as you see fit unlike MW where they continually spawn until you run past a certain spot.

Didnt seem as funny as the other one, tho it does have some jokes in it and plenty of references to MW which were canny funny to be fair, especially the bit about bringing in the special ops fellas with the heartbeat sensors

Story was a bit crap tho and I think I went through it just using the one gun (which I got early on, may have even started with it) with the occassional sniper rifle for kicks.

I have been sent to the main menu 3 times. Xbox desktop 1 time already. Then I can't connect to anything for about 10 min. t
Then its up again. They say they are working hard on it. But since its been like this since launch. I doubt it. I'll bet its just one dude in a basement in one of the EA buildings working on it as always. EA never gets the server thing right.
Dice had there own servers on BC1. Never had an issue. Not 1 DC.
On BC2 EA wanted to make the servers cus they could make bigger and more stable servers. Dice said yes to this. And saying yes to EA on any matter is a bad idea. As has been proven several times before.

Will do Blipp... need some one on my friends list to knife for the "knife a friend achievement" ;) And just did some more reading.

PS3 is Okey atm. They experience short DC or server down time periods before its up again. 360 uses got the worst of it and have the longest down time.

PC is affected to, and have experienced some down time and DC to. Tho not that bad as the console.

The reason as they have finally posted are as follows.

PS3... Bigger server loads then expected. 30% more users then calculated and 70% more traffic then BC1
PC... Bigger server loads then expected and 200% more users then calculated. Biggest server load on any Dice PC game since BF 2.

XBOX 360: HUGE server loads. 600% more load then on BC 1 any 400% more then BF 2 ever had at its peak.

So yeah they did anticipate that there would be big server loads the 1st few weeks. But its kinda hard to predict a 600% increase in server load form BC1... 600% is a lot. No figures on the site but still. a lot.

Dunno if they are adding more servers. But on the "VIP" page they say they have only reset em atm.

Had the worst bad luck ever last night. Was in a gunship. Shooting stuff up. Gunship fly's in for repairs but then. The pilot DC and It looses it's trust and smacks into a building before I can swap seats and get some power on it.

Or the Blackhawk Full load of ppl. Over water miles away form shore "we where taking a detour around them map to a enemy checkpoint and wanted to stay away form AA fire" Halfway there the pilot DC. People realize whats about to happen and bails out. And 4 morons "me included" have to swim back... Half way 2 of em kill them self for a faster re-spawn lol

Well you probably dont know but my first online game was Battlefield 1942- Desert Comabt Mod. I ended up joining a US clan even, but when we found out that my presence during clan matches caused lag for all US gamers I moved to a German clan.

We had a good time with DC but in the end it faded away when BF2 came out, even though BF2 was not that great.

Now with BC2 our Battlefiled section is flowering again and I spend most of my time in the Broccoli dress pouring lead on the battlefield- and the game rocks! Pretty hard!

If you want to join me in battle (weekdays from 5-9 mostly, weekends longer) add Who?? to your pals and pay me a visit in Teamspeak2 if you like ... address is 85.25.143.153:8767 - whisper to me and you'll get moved from the lobby.

See you on the battlegrounds or during one of our raids!
