DDO-Unlimited

Ok so I tried this at Beta, enjoyed it but just didn't have time for another PPM MMO, but now its FTP I headed back for some very casual playing. I gotta say it's quite fun, I really enjoyed the new opening Isle introduction and having moved into the Stormreach Harbour I'm still enjoying myself.

It's great not getting XP for killing a rat, then looting a suit of heavy plate off it's corpse. It just makes sense. Grouping seems to be done often with PUG forming all the time to get the quests done on harder levels. But so far I've not had any trouble doing the Solo, Normal and Hard modes alone on my characters, although I have used a Henceman healer on a couple of the Hard modes with tougher mini-bosses.

I'm not saying it's a great game, it's not everyone cup of tea, but I've enjoyed it. With it being MOSTLY free theres plenty to do so its a nice place to visit once in a while.

Migth be worth taking a look.

Jim and i used to play this when it was paid version. Enjoyed for a year or so but it ran out of high level content. Still have a mate playing this US pay to play version / free unlimited and he had this to say about it:

Last night I had a look at ddo forums and they were all raving about ddo unlimited, the US version that now lets you play for free, Had a look and downloaded it. It turns out that to get all the usual access to maps and char slots, you have to purchase turbine points. You can still get the 32pts build by usual ways or use turbine points to access. Although you have to purchase to get all the best stuff and access just like the monthly subs, once this is done, it's all free forever so no more monthly subs. Other downside is starting from afresh, no money no uber loot. Other up side is that the server is really well populated just how it should be, the euro servers were getting so scarce.

I played unlimited for a while when it first came out, got a cleric to Stormreach, can't remember what level though.

I only stopped playing because I simply didn't have the time with the other games I am playing. I hope to go back to it sometime but not in a rush as my game list is huge at the moment.

Yeah a lot of the content is paid for with the Turbine Point system. The VIP (subscribers) get 500 points a month, everyone else has to buy them with money or Favor Points. Monk, Warforged, Drow and Favoured Soul are all purchased via the Store if you don't subscribe, you can buy the 32 point character there too now (Yes I was sad and paid for some of this!).

Theres enough content to level upto 20, might need to grind a little I've not got that high yet so I'm not sure. But it seems a lot of the better adventures you have to buy, or get free with VIP, so if you want to join in those you will have to pay in some form.

Its been quite fun just to kill some time at lunch etc and a few friends said they will play too so it was a chance to hangout with them. (Lagger- Pink, Jayk and a few other said they will play but only Jayk has been on so far.)

Well I'm still playing this when I'm playing anything MMO atm, not got much time for gaming currently. But I'm on the Orien server now, have a few low 10's characters and a few around 5th. It gets a lot harder to level as you get past 10 but still enjoying it.

August 20th 2010 the EU servers are being shut down and it will be possible to transfer your EU account over to the US servers, with 5000 Turbine Points free gratis.

I might give this a looking again, tho I would be restricted to two characters.
Anyone still playing?

I'm not anymore, no. But if you started up, I'd transfer as I'd love to try the game out properly. Never got past level 4 as there was noone to play with
