[STO] Fleet Night

Postby TheAvvons » Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:39 pm

A few people are trying STO and going away because it's 'not multiplayer enough'. There's plenty wrong with the game, but that isn't part of it and to have people go away with that impression is a shame.

The Aartanian 7th needs activity, obviously, and one thing that works really nicely for my EVE corp (and most other guilds I've seen) is to have a fixed event night; even when not everyone can make it, we all know that something is likely to happen.

Here's an example event:
Everyone jumps in their tier 2 ship (you did keep the tier 2 ship, right? Never mind, you can rebuy it for about 20k), or tier 1 if they're still Lt. No systems above Mk IV, please; your high-rank personal abilities will be edge enough.
Depending on how many people we get, we either do deep space encounters or a fleet action. We should be able to pick one fit for the level (high end of LtCdr, probably).
That way everyone gets to fly in their respective styles, but we're as accessible as possible to people of lower levels. Later on we'll fix it at tier 3, then maybe 4.

So, is there a day that suits for a number of fleet members to get together once a week or once a fortnight?
I'm happy to organise it if it's a time I can make (and if it's a time I can't, I'm happy to organise something else when I can). I'm busy Wednesdays and alternate Tuesdays, but other than that I'm mostly fine whenever.

As a side point, I recommend that everyone keeps as wide a range of ships as possible and leave each one outfitted appropriate for the level at which you grew out of it. I've no idea how many we may be allowed to store, but even once you start having to decommission some I suggest getting rid of tiers 1 and 3 first.

Sounds like fun.

I'll admit I've not gotten far in the game but I might be persuaded to play if a few things were going on.

On day 2 of my 5 day trial today, I'm mostly on during the day as Lotro keeps me busy at nights. Added all the names I could find to my friendslist, but haven't seen anyone online as of yet..Still in the low levels so no idea wheather I would be of any use in a fleetnight tho..

I work relatively late these days so you won't see me during the day, and unfortunately my internet connection is being funny at the moment so maybe nobody else is going to see me either. :(

5 days is a really stingy trial period. I suggest that everyone who is vaguely interested leaves it a little while until Cryptic have had time to put in some of the polish they should have done before launch. I for one will still be around after that, and happy to come and work with lower-level people.

Although I think they missed a trick not making more of it, they've got an ideal gating mechanic in the ship classes: if you keep an old ship and don't upgrade its equipment too far, most of your level advantage goes away when you get back into it, so you can work with lower-level friends quite nicely. There's no incentive to do so besides being sociable, of course, but it's better than other games where a high-level friend automatically trivialises the content when he joins the group.

Think this is a top idea mate. I'm really supportive of it.

Depending on what time we may be likely to do it will determine which nights are best for me. However, I will fit this in either way. I've very little that I do for myself these days. I can afford to take off 1 night a week for myself :)

My shifts are quite irratic - so it's hard for me to commit to a specific night but I'll always try to attend any events. Good idea with the lower level ships and keeping a few in reserve. So far I have ditched each tier's ship but it's very easy to buy a new one and kit it out for levelling and grouping.

Also, it gives you a reason to go back to those other ships. There are some great, iconic designs in every tier.
