STAR WARS GALAXIES™ SERVER CLOSURE F.A.Q. - 09/15/2009

Which servers will be closing?

The following 12 servers will be closing on Thursday, October 15 2009:

- Corbantis

- Europe-Infinity

- Intrepid

- Kauri

- Kettemoor

- Lowca

- Naritus

- Scylla

- Tarquinas

- Tempest

- Valcyn

- Wanderhome

When will these 12 servers be closed?

These servers will be closing on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 4:40 PM Pacific Time.

Why are you closing these 12 Star Wars Galaxies Servers?

The Free Character Transfer Service launched earlier this year with the intention of allowing players to transfer to servers with more active communities, creating a more vibrant and memorable Star Wars Galaxies gaming experience. The Free Character Transfer Service was a phenomenal success, leaving the less active servers in an undesirable position. In order to help streamline the current and new user experience, we have made the decision to close the less active servers and focus on the thriving Star Wars Galaxies servers.

To be expected with a six year old game, or the beginning of the end? I can't imagine they'll sustain enough players to run all of the remaining servers once TOR launches.

Besides, imagine being part of an established rank 5 city on one of the servers earmarked for closure. Hardly much of an incentive to keep playing on a new server is it?

Nice to see Farstar will continue. Begining of the end tbh, I'm surprised it lasted this long.

Wandehome

Postby Xeevo » Thu Sep 17, 2009 8:58 am

Wanderhome was the one I joined in Beta then with a guild at launch.

Odd that the first world I visited in the process of a game's development will soon be gone for good...

Planting harvesters outside tyrena, swimming around the beeches looking for guild hall spot, ah...memories...

Poor old Lowca, AR's humble first post-release home near Daoba Guerfel on Corellia. It was a real bitch to run to when I first started the game, blooming Bagersets, and my welcoming commitee consisted of Jyanna sitting next to a harvester :D.

A sad sight to be sure, but they did have a big number of servers up, some of which seemed extremely empty.
Think I had a master Entertainer on Corbantis, got the option to switch her to another server several times but had no idea where to put her.

It's strange to think back and wonder what would have happened if I had stayed with the first wookie toon I made on Bria, and never made ki for fun on Farstar...I would have never met this lot of people and likely never stayed with the game, nor any other mmo's following nge...

Sad news indeed but its lasted a lot longer than i thought it would tbh. Its the first mmo i ever played but the actual game i played has long been gone and its very different now. Its done well to last this long but time brings new exiting things so bring on TOR :D

*Agrees with Jim*

One thought though, UO is now 12 years old I think and they are still running all their original servers.

I did finally close my 5 accounts recently though.

Must. Resist.

MUST

Seems like every 6 months I have the drive to load up and log on, can't imagine how many patches I'd need to download if I did this though. I know last time I did this there were still a few pieces of AR in place Shuttleport, Man Guild Building, a few houses) but quite a lot had vanished.

But I miss the 'old game' and going out hunting solo'ing Krayts with everyone... And when we had to do it in a big group...

I too kept feeling the urge to look in now and again. The game has changed so much it didn't feel right anymore. Although admitedly the "right" feeling came from being in such a great PA of people and not being made into an "Iconic" profession grrrr!

That was the problem with my station account, i just kept popping back in (even Vanguard, much better but far too late)..... So i have now finally said goodbye to it(for now  )

Anyone who previously subbed to Star Wars Galaxies will be able to play for free between February 1st and March 1st. This coincides with “Forces Under Siege“, which is a hugely territory conflict add-on, which will allow players to contest for control of major cities. A captured city will confer benefits, such as quests and useful NPCs, to the controlling power. The Imperial types get to drive AT-ATs, so presumably they’ll win hands down. Could this be the last hurrah for Galaxies with The Old Republic on the horizon?
